Our first ever DofE expedition

Our first ever DofE expedition

After months of planning, and hard work we finally had our first ever Bronze DofE expedition, and what a success it was! Last weekend saw 10 young people push and challenge themselves and try new things outside of their comfort zones.

On day one we started with a full kit check and showed the group how to correctly pack and fit their rucksacks. Once complete, we set off from Partington and started teaching the young people how to navigate using an OS map and to calculate the distance and the time it will take. After what was a warm, sunny and hay-feverish day, there was no better way than an ice cream stop at Dunham Massey, to give the group the motivation and an energy boost to power through to camp, set up their tents and cook their dinners on stoves! The evening was finished with hide and seek and roasting marshmallows on a fire!

After cooking breakfast and packing down their tents, the young people left a spotless campsite for day 2 of their expedition. After the previous day’s success, the young people were split into two groups, and walked independently, only meeting the volunteer supervisors at checkpoints.

It was an incredibly successful weekend and we can’t wait until their qualifying expedition in July! Check out our Instagram stories highlights for more photos and videos of their expedition.
