Last weekend was the Partington DofE group’s qualifying expedition, where we had 10 young people navigate themselves in the Rivington area, carrying everything they needed to camp overnight and be totally self-sufficient.
This expedition had more challenges than their practice, much cooler but rainier, and a lot hillier! However, the young people had learnt from their practice, and with much lighter rucksacks, more efficiently packed, they almost raced up to Rivington Pike! After coming back down from the Pike, the groups navigated themselves past the lovely reservoirs and countryside and reached camp right on time! What we thought was going to be a rainy evening, turned into a lovely summer one! In the morning of day 2 the rain did come first thing, so after putting down lots of wet tents, the groups set off all waterproofed up, and completed their route.
Both groups did incredibly well and we are pleased to announced they have all passed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition section!
